Girls in ICT Day is a global initiative originally established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). In Uganda, the Uganda National Association for Computer Users (UNACU) organizes this event to honor and support this important international observance.
The celebration is aimed at inspiring and empowering girls and young women to explore opportunities in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Through this initiative, UNACU provides a platform for participants to gain practical digital skills, interact with ICT professionals, and learn about career paths in the technology sector.
Activities include hands-on computer training, coding sessions, mentorship programs, career guidance talks, and innovation challenges. These engagements are designed to build confidence, creativity, and technical knowledge among girls, especially those from underserved communities.
By organizing Girls in ICT Day, UNACU contributes to bridging the gender gap in technology, promoting digital inclusion, and supporting the development of future female leaders in ICT in Uganda.
